Yangon, August (18)
Military leader General Min Aung Hlaing said on August 16 that his military council will meet again with the 10 ethnic armed organizations that have held peace talks with him.
The military leader said he will meet with 10 ethnic armed organizations again this month and try to sign a peace treaty in September.
Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt, spokesperson for the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST), told Than Lwin Times that since the military council has not yet informed the EAOs about the meeting in August, so there has been no negotiation regarding the topics to be discussed.
Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt added that if the military council informs us, all 10 ethnic armed groups will try to meet with him at the same time, and we will try to avoid a situation where we have to go because of the military council’s invitation.
“Last month, when four prominent political figures were executed, there were repercussions at home and abroad. Thus, I believe the upcoming meeting will have some effects. So far, the military council has not sent an official invitation for a meeting,” Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt said.
The PPST, which has signed a Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) , announced on July 6 that it will try to create a landscape where political problems can be resolved through political means and will hold all-inclusive political dialogue.
The NCA-signatories that discussed peace with the military council are the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP); Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA); Karen Peace Council KNU/KNLA (PC); Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS); Lahu Democratic Union (LDU); Pao National Liberation Organization (PNLO); and New Mon State Party (NMSP).
The National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA-Mongla), the Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP), and United Was State Army (UWSA) are ethnic armed organizations that have not signed NCA.
