Yangon, August (20)
According to political analysts and CDM military officials, regime forces may launch coordinated air strikes and ground operations against revolutionary forces within six months.
The military council, which toppled the elected government and seized power by force, extended the state of emergency for six months on July 31.
According to the 2008 constitution, the last state of emergency will expire on February 1, 2023, and after that period, the military council must hold mandatory elections.
The military leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, promised in a meeting held on August 16 that he would try to restore the political and economic situation in the next six months in order to hold the election.
In the coming six months, the military council may conduct extensive joint operations against the revolutionary forces using heavy armor and missile weapons with the navy, army, and air forces, CDM Captain Lin Htet Aung said.
He added that the military council may use more tactics and violence to put pressure on the people in order to bring down the revolutionary forces.
According to political expert U Than Soe Naing, the military council may hold the election by force against the will of the people, even though there are not enough security forces to step up the violence.
The military council is currently preparing to conduct extensive military operations in the Karenni and Karen States, as well as ground and air strikes in the regions of Sagaing and Magwe.
The regime forces began to plan a massive offensive in the states of Kachin, Chin, Rakhine, and Mon.
The military council has already suppressed the People’s Defense Forces from gaining a foothold in the regions, and depending on their strength, they might launch attacks, political analyst U Ye Htun (Hsipaw) said.
CDM Captain Lin Htet Aung suggested that intercepted attacks should be carried out from now on in order to block the army’s offensive routes.
National Unity Government (NUG)’s Acting President Duwa Lashi La said on June 14 that the military must be defeated both politically and militarily, as this is an important time to prevent the elections to be held by the military council.
