Mawlamyine, January (31)
On January 29, the New Mon State Party (NMSP- Thaton District) requested the armed forces to uphold military ethics and keep away from villages and residential areas when raging the battle.
The New Mon State Party has issued a warning about the fighting in the area surrounding Kanni village in Karen’s Kyondoe township, where the majority of the Mon people live.
From January 22 to 26, a battle took place between the Lion Battalion Commando column and the regime’s IB 545 in the villages around Kanni village.
In that battle, the Lion Battalion Commando led by Lieutenant Saw El Sae Wa set fire to the administration office of Kanni village and the homes of militia members, then, 21 other houses in Kanni village were caught on fire, and the 18 houses in Nyaungyeik village were also destroyed by the fighting between the two sides, according to the NMSP’s statement.
In addition, the military council’s artillery fire wrecked seven houses in Thayattaw village, one house in Nyaungyeik village, and three houses in Kanni village.
Two people were hurt during the fighting between the two sides, and thousands of locals were forced to leave for safer places.
As a result, if an emergency case happens again, the Mon people of the region are advised to put in place security measures in their areas in advance, in collaboration with the New Mon State Party, and to maintain contact with the relevant township offices and Thaton District offices.
The New Mon Party was an ethnic armed organization that signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) under the NLD administration and took part in three peace talks after the military coup at the invitation of the military leader. News-Than Lwin Times
