Mawlamyine, February (1)
The Military Council has beefed up security in Mawlamyine, Mon State, and large-scale security forces have been patrolling around the city, the locals told Than Lwin Times.
Regime troops and police forces are using nearly 15 civilian vehicles, including military vehicles, and are patrolling the city and secretly deploying troops at key locations.
Residents believe that the soldiers may be patrolling to prevent the public from participating in the Silent Strike that marks the second anniversary of the coup on February 1.
However, they have not yet forced shops to open shops as usual in the city’s neighborhoods, and the revolutionary forces have warned people to be careful as the soldiers may take action against closed shops.
Residents also reported that the military council has tightened security at the city’s entry points, interrogating and examining travelers, and stopping automobiles and motorcycles in key locations.
The military council is constantly monitoring the movement of people in the city through CCTV, and if they see any suspects, they are instructed to arrest and interrogate them, according to sources close to the military council.
Currently, the military council has tightened security in many townships of regions and states, including Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon, and military lobbies are preparing to hold a rally in support of the junta army on February 1.
