It was reported that the military regime’s heavy weapons killed five civilians and injured four others in the past two weeks in the territory of KNU Brigade 1 in Thaton District, according to the KNU’s Thaton District.
The military council fired at least 50 rounds of heavy weapons on villages in Kyaikto, Belin and Thaton townships in KUN Thathon District during the two weeks from March 8 to 21, in the absence of fighting.
On March 8, 10-year-old children Ma Win Win Yi and Mg Hteik Pyaung from Kyonmain Village, Thatthong Township were killed by the junta’s artillery fire, and local residents Daw Ma Nu Phoe and Saw Naw Ka Mu were injured.
In addition, on March 17, a man from Zeepyaung village was injured by a mortar shell fired by the junta troops stationed near Ingabo village, Kyaikto township.
Similarly, on March 18, a five-year-old Ko Phoe Thaingyan from Ah Wun Gyi village was killed by shrapnel from a mortar shell fired by a junta artillery unit based in Belin.
On March 20, junta troops stationed at the Than Bridge checkpoint in Belin Township fired a mortar shell into Kayawayseik village, killing U Kalar and Ko Aung Lwin and injuring Daw Sein Nyunt.
Ko Aye Min Tun, the PDF official from Thaton District, told Than Lwin Times that they will respond strongly to the military regime who is targeting civilian villages when there is no fighting.
According to a statement from KNU Thaton District, at least six houses were damaged and a cow was killed by heavy weapon of the junta troops in KNU’s Thaton District within two weeks.
