The junta column that invaded Tanintharyi Region’s Yebyu Township arrested nearly 30 local people as human shields, the residents and resistance forces told Than Lwin Times.
On the morning of May 8, a military column of more than 50 soldiers stormed Wet Chaung village in Yebyu Township and arrested roughly 20 local men and women as human shields.
After that, the junta troops were stationed at the school in Khamauk Chaung village and detained about 10 locals, said a source.
Locals said that the regime forces kept those arrested as human shields in the school, and some of them were held with their hands tied behind their backs.
A member of the PDF told Than Lwin Times that the military operations of the junta army could intensify the tension and escalate the fighting.
Lately, when the regime forces invade villages in Tanintharyi Region, there have been incidents of arresting local residents as human shields.
Nearly 100 locals were detained on April 26 when junta troops raided Yange and Weyit villages in Thayat Chaung Township; two days later, they were released.
