Kyaikto, May (26)
A man died and another was injured after being struck by lightning in Thayatgon village of Ah Baing village tract in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township on May 25, locals confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
Ko Naing Lin and his wife, who resided in a hut on a rubber farm near a pagoda in Thayatgon village, were struck by lightning at 7:00 a.m. that day.
Ko Naing Lin, who was struck by lightning, died on the spot, while his wife suffered burns.
It is reported that the injured wife was taken to a hospital in Kyaikto Township by the social rescue team.
In another incident, in the first week of May, a man was struck by lightning while he was in the field near the railway in lower Nan Khe new ward in Mon State’s Thaton Township.
According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, cloud mountains develop in the afternoon and evening during the pre-monsoon season of April and May, and if the cloud mountains grow strong enough, lightning may occur.
