One local resident was killed and the other injured after they stepped on a landmine near Min Pyin Taung village of Pala Town in Tainthryi Region’s Palaw Township, locals told Than Lwin Times.
On the afternoon of June 14, 46-year-old U Pho Lu and 26-year-old Ko Aung Zaw Lat from Ward No. 3, Pala town, stepped on a land mine while picking chestnuts in the forest near Min Pyin village.
Ko Aung Zaw Lat died on the spot after stepping on a land mine, while U Pho Lu was hit by shrapnel in his eyes and body, and was taken to Pala Hospital.
Locals believe that this landmine may have been planted by the junta army while they were invading the villages.
On June 11, a local man who went to work in a field west of the Pala police station was hit by a landmine and injured in his leg.
During the military takeover in Pala town, where martial law had been imposed, the military regime used more landmines and planted landmines around the battalion camps and outposts, according to the revolutionary forces.
