Military council continues to arrest and torture civilians in Mone Township

The military council detained some civilians in Mone Township of KNU-controlled Nyaunglaybin District, tortured them and took money from them, the KNU reported.

The regime forces arrested Saw Thagay, aged 40, from Aunglaungsein village and Saw Taw Emu, aged 17, from Naungbo village in Mone Township, around 10 am on August 13.

According to KNU, the military council beat Saw Thagay and took 30,000 kyats from him but released him at 2:00 p.m.

On August 13, at 6:00 pm, the military council arrested Ko Myint Soe Oo, a 39-year-old resident of Ownshitkhin village, and he has not been released until now.

After that, the military council destroyed the bridge used by the local people in the east of Ownshitkhin village, according to KNU.

Meanwhile, the regime troops fired heavy weapons into the villages and arrested and beat the local people, causing them to flee to safety in Mone Township.

The displaced people face food insecurities and disease outbreaks, and the leaders from KNU’s Mone Township visited them and provided them with medical supplies and basic food items.
