The military council sentenced State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to seven more years in prison on December 30 for five counts of corruption, according to sources close to the court.

The military council charged Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint with five counts of corruption for allegedly failing to follow procedures in the purchase of a helicopter to respond to natural disasters, causing the state to lose money.

A person close to the court said that both Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint have instructed their lawyer groups to appeal the cases.
