Hundreds of cars stuck in Belin amid firefight

Belin, January (11)

There was an exchange of fire between the junta troops and the joint force of the KNLA following the military convoy hitting the landmines on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway near Daukyat village in Mon State’s Belin Township around 2 pm on January 10, the locals told Than Lwin Times.

A joint force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) attacked a military convoy heading to Belin from Thatono near Daukyat village.

The KNLA joint forces then clashed with security forces stationed near the Belin Toll Gate after engaging in a one-hour firefight with a mine-hit military convoy.

In that incident, four soldiers were killed and two cars were caught on fire, the KNU’s Alliance Supervisory Committee said.

Hundreds of vehicles were trapped on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway amid an exchange of fire, and the road reopened around 4 pm.

After several months of no battle between the junta army and the KNLA joint forces, fighting has resumed in Belin Township, controlled by KNU Brigade 1. News-Than Lwin Times
