Kyaikhto, 24 January

A celebrity on social media Facebook was arrested in his village in Kyaikhto Township, Mon state, on 22 January, according to the locals.

Aung Chan Aye took part in anti-coup protests in Myanmar and then he fled to Thailand where he did online sales and created online short videos.

Junta members arrested him just after he came back from PyinOoLwin to his home.

He has been charged with Article 505 (a) of the sedition laws.

“He was detained just after he arrived back home. It is no wonder that someone informed to the junta. He is reportedly held at the police station in Kyaikhto Township,” said a local on condition of anonymity to Than Lwin Times.

Before 5 days when he was arrested, Aung Chan Aye performed for some advertisements in Mandalay and PyinOoLwin.

Anti-junta activists who took part in the  protests, wrote on social media against the military and support to NUG and PDF are being arrested by the military in Kyaikhto Township.

Moreover, the junta-sponsored Telegram pages are inciting authorities to arrest CDM staff, businesspersons and anti-coup activists.

At least 50 locals who support resistance forces directly or indirectly have been prosecuted, and some of them were released after asking money.
