Seven relatives, including a one-year-old kid, were gunned down in Nyaungshinkon village in Kyauklongyi village tract in Tanintharyi Region’s Palaw Township, the residents and PDFs told Than Lwin Times.
On February 11, at around 11 pm, a group of armed men arrived at the home of U Myint Aung, the administrator of Nyaungshinkon village, and shot and killed all seven family members, including the children.
The administrator’s wife, daughter, and grandchildren were killed in the shootout, and the administrator was not at home.
The slain victims were grandsons Maung Thar Thar, aged 1; Ma May Zin Phyu,6; Maung Soe Min Pai,13; Maung Zeya Aung, 16; Maung Nay Htet Thein,17; daughter Daw Than Than Maw and wife Daw Kyin Nu.
According to the information officer of Myeik District Battalion-1, the assassination of the administrator’s family was not carried out by the People’s Defense Forces, and the perpetrators were being investigated.
Telegram accounts of military supporters allege that the administrator’s family members were killed by the People’s Defense Forces.
According to a February report by the research group Southern Monitor, more than 360 civilians have been killed in the Tanintharyi region during the two years of military coup.
