Yangon, 15 February

A prison court in Yangon sentenced a 5-years imprisonment to a former student activist leader.

The former leader of All-Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABSFU), Lin Htet Naing (a) Jame, was charged with  Section 52 (b) of the counter-terrorism law, according to his close relatives to Than Lwin Times.

He was first charged with Section 50 (j), and it was then changed into Section 52 (b).

The recent imprisonment was the second sentence to him at the same court in Insein Prison, Yangon, after the first prison term of 3 years under the Penal Code Section 505 (a)  on 7 December last year, for causing fear, spreading false news and agitating crimes against a government employee.

Therefore, he would suffer a total of 8-year imprisonment.

The junta issued an arrest warrant in March 2021 without committing any crime, and he was arrested in Botathaung Township, Yangon, in June 2022.

“My husband was wrongfully convicted with political charges and counter-terrorism acts,” said the wife of Lin Htet Aung on her social media page.

His mother, Daw Kyi Kyi Myint, died in the parcel bomb blast at the delivery reception unit of Insein Prison in October last year. He was also refused to visit his mother’s funeral.
