Military council prohibits businesses from using electricity during matriculation examinations

Yangon, February (26)

The Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) has issued a warning to all businesses and industries not to use electricity after 5:00 p.m. during matriculation exams.

Power production will be increased so that students who will take the matriculation exam can study at night, and this notice was issued because power outages may occur if power production and consumption are not balanced during students’ study time, the statement said.

The notice further stated that businesses and industries in the wards and villages that use electricity like the general public are not to use it from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm during the exam period.

During the mentioned time, if the business is operated with electricity distributed by the department, action will be taken according to the rules, the statement said.

“While there were myriad of orders for the factory, the military council’s restrictions impacted both employers and workers,” said an entrepreneur from the Shwe Pyi Thar garment industry.

The military council has announced that the university entrance examination for the 2022-2023 academic year will be held from March 8th to 20th.
