The junta troops that entered Lakku village in Tanintharyi Region’s Palaw Township, where martial law had been imposed, arrested more than 30 residents, the sources familiar with the matter told Than Lwin Times.
The 50-strong troops entered Lakku village on February 28, and arrested the residents on their way or at their houses.
As a result, the majority of the locals are escaping, but some have been detained.
The majority of the more than 30 people arrested were women, and some were released after being interrogated, but most of them remained in custody.
Locals are worried that the detainees will be used as human shields in the event of a fight between the two sides.
Now, regime troops have been stationed at a monastery in Lakku village.
There are more than 800 houses in Lakku village, most of the local people make a living from fishing, and local men and young people work in Thailand and Malaysia.
On February 24, the junta troops arrested 10 local people as human shields during a raid on Palaw Township’s Thingandaw village and released them a day later.
