Kanbalu, April (14)
The ASEAN chairman issued a press release condemning the military council’s airstrike in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, which resulted in the deaths of a large number of civilians.
In the early morning of April 11, Pazigyi village, an opposition stronghold, was attacked by the junta Air Force with Jet Fighter and Mi-35 attack helicopter while the public defense forces were celebrating the opening of their office.
According to sources on the ground, more than 100 people, including children, the elderly, and women, were killed in the Pazigyi attack.
The statement said that ASEAN strongly condemned the incident that killed dozens of local people and that all forms of violence against civilians must end immediately.
This would be the only way to create a conducive environment for an inclusive national dialogue to find a sustainable peaceful solution in Myanmar, and they reiterate ASEAN’s commitment to continue assisting Myanmar in seeking a workable solution to the ongoing crisis through promoting the full implementation of the Five-Point Consensus, said the statement.
The airstrike on Pazigyi village drew condemnation from the UN Secretary General and world communities.
Amnesty International (AI) has also announced that there is an urgent need to immediately stop the importation of jet fuel to the military council.
