Nay Pyi Taw, April (23)

The news that the salaries of the military council’s civil servants will be raised is merely a rumor, according to the April 22 issue of the junta propaganda newspaper.

The junta made this announcement after news spread on social media that the salaries of civil servants were going to be increased.

U Win Htike, Director General of the Ministry of Planning and Finance, responded that due to the country’s financial circumstances, civil servant pay has not yet been increased.

A civil servant said that last year, the military leader had said that he would increase the salaries of civil servants in accordance with the current situation.

Previously, the military council had spread propaganda among the civil servants that they would assign CDM staff to their original positions and increase their salaries.

The statement that there is no plan to raise pay demonstrates that the country’s budget is significantly lower under the military council, according to an economic analyst.

The salaries of civil servants range from 150,000 kyats for junior staff to 550,000 kyats for director generals.
