A woman and her nine-year-old son, who were working at an orchard in Tanintharyi’s Maw Taung Town, were shot and killed, locals told Than Lwin Times.
Ma Zar Chi Oo, 25, and his nine-year-old son Maung Lin Oo were shot dead while working in the orchard on the morning of April 30.
The child and his mother died on the spot from bullet wounds to the head.
According to local residents, the child and mother were shot dead when her husband went hunting in the forest, and they were not affiliated with any organization.
The deceased mother and son are residents of Aye Tharyar Ward in Maw Taung Town, and the details of why they were shot are still unknown.
The Tanintharyi Township People’s Defense Forces told Than Lwin Times that they are not responsible for the deaths of the mother and son and strongly condemns the arbitrarily killing of civilians.
Nearly 500 civilians were killed in Tanintharyi in the more than two years following the military coup, according to data from local research organizations.
