One civilian was shot dead and the other two were arrested and tortured by the junta troops in Kyaukgyi and Mone Township, under the territory of KUN Brigade, Nyaunglaybin District, according to the KNU sources.


A 23-year-old man from Tagondaing ward, Natthangwin Town, Kyaukgyi Township of Nyaunglaybin District, was shot and killed while he was returning from work for no reason by junta troops who were patrolling in front of Natthangwin Hospital around 7:30 p.m. on May 3, according to the statement.


On April 25, a 40-year-old man from Kyaukmaw Phayargyi village, Kyaukgyi Township, was arrested by the junta while on his way to the market in Shwe Kyin Township, and was taken to the camp of Infantry Battalion 349, according to the statement.


The military council accused him of being a KNLA soldier and a military council opponent, imprisoned and kept him in the camp, poured gasoline on his body and set him on fire, and then released him on May 3 after the troops sprayed him with urine.


In addition, a 22-year-old man from Thabyay Nyung village in Mone Township was detained by the military council for one month before fleeing on April 22, according to the statement.


The statement said he was tortured in many ways during his detention by the regime troops and is now undergoing medical treatment.


Karen civil society groups have reported that the junta forces frequently commit human rights violations such as arresting, torturing, and killing local people in Nyaunglaybin District.
