Khin-U, May (9)
As two junta columns have reportedly been conducting clearance operations in Sagaing Region’s Khin-U Township, more than 7,000 residents have fled their homes in the villages in the eastern and western parts of Khin-U Township.
A 70-strong junta column has entered the western side of Khin-U Township since the morning of May 7, while the other 100-strong column has also infiltrated the eastern side.
A resident said that the homes of people fleeing Kabut village and Kokehtet village were burned down by the junta troops, and the cost of the damage is unknown.
A gunfight broke out between regime troops and the People’s Defense Force (PDF), killing one PDF comrade and injuring another, reported Khin-U True News Team.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), nearly 750,000 people have fled their homes in Sagaing because of the conflict between the junta troops and the People’s Defense Forces.
