Yangon, May (13)

Domestic flights have been temporarily suspended beginning May 9 until the cyclonic storm subsides, according to the military council’s Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.

Currently, due to the danger of the cyclone, flights have been temporarily grounded, allowing vacationers stuck on Ngapali Beach to stay until the storm has gone away.

The director of the Rakhine State’s Hotels and Tourism Directorate, U Tin Htut Aung, told the junta propaganda media that while the airlines were temporarily suspended the authorities instructed travelers to stay in hotels.

Authorities have advised the hotel staff to minimize losses caused by cyclone and to provide advance notice of the cyclone to hotels and guesthouses.

Cyclone Mocha is anticipated to make landfall the city of Sittwe within the next 48 hours beginning on May 12. The maximum wind speed in the current condition is 110 miles per hour, and the wave height ranges from 13 to 16 feet.

As fishing vessels, boats and ships may be in danger due to cyclone Mocha, the officials have warned people not to go out to sea along the coast of Myanmar from noon on May 12.

The military council also said that those who do not follow the warning will be taken as necessary by the relevant authorities.
