Kyainseikgyi, June (3)
There has been a fierce battle between the junta army and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) in Karen State’s Kyainseikgyi Township since June 2, leaving civilians injured or dead, according to a local source.
The clash broke out as the combined force of KNLA Brigade 6 and PDFs raided the junta battalion, police station, and some departmental offices in Kyainseikgyi since early that morning.
Residents also said that the Revolutionary Joint Forces used drones to drop bombs on the headquarters of Infantry Battalion 284 in Kyainseikgyi.
The battle took place for almost three hours, from 5:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., and the junta army used heavy weapons and air strikes to attack the town and the surrounding areas of Kyainseikgyi.
The military council’s artillery shelling and airstrikes killed at least four civilians, including a monk, and destroyed the monastery and some houses. Than Lwin Times is still investigating the casualties and injuries during the battle.
More than 180 members of KNLA forces attacked Kyainseikgyi, leading to fierce fighting between the two sides while four KNLA members were injured, two others were in critical condition, and one child and two monks were killed by KNLA joint forces, according to the junta lobbyists.
Kyainseikgyi, in the territory of KNU Brigade 6, is under martial law, and in early January, KNLA coalition forces attacked the junta battalion in Kyainseikgyi.
