Thayetchaung, June (7)
More than 1,000 people are fleeing a recent invasion and arson attacks by regime forces in Oattu and Kyauk Hlegar villages in Tanintharyi Region’s Thayetchaung Township, locals told Than Lwin Times.
Two columns of more than 150 troops have entered the villages of Oattu and Kyauk Hlegar since the morning of June 6, firing heavy weapons.
The junta column set fire to Oattu village, initially destroying two houses, and some houses were hit by the heavy weapons in Kyauk Hlegar village.
It is reported that more than 1,000 local residents from those two villages have fled to nearby orchards and safer places due to the invasion of the regime forces.
The junta troops are still stationed inside the communities and are firing heavy weapons into the adjacent villages.
So far, no fighting has occurred between the two sides, but the military situation remains tense, according to the revolutionary forces.
On April 11, when the junta troops entered Taung Pyauk District of Thayetchaung Township, residents of seven villages fled, and most of them have not yet returned to their homes.
