Mawlamyine, June 8
More than 230 cases of dengue fever were reported in Mon State, with one child dead from January through May of this year, according to the figure of the military council’s Department of Health.
There were few dengue cases between January and April, but hundreds of children were infected in May.
Among them, a child from Ahlat village in Paung township, contracted dengue and passed away because he did not receive prompt medical attention, said the junta department.
Dengue fever is most common in Paung, Chaungson, Mawlamyine, and Kyaikmaraw townships, and other townships also have cases of dengue.
Doctors have warned that if children are sick during this season, they need to be examined at the nearest hospital and clinic in time, otherwise, they may die due to severe dengue symptoms such as hemorrhage and shock.
The Aedes mosquito that causes dengue fever breeds in water, and doctors have instructed that water containers around their homes should be covered, emptied, replaced, and filtered as a preventive measure against mosquitoes.
In Mon State, there were over 2,000 dengue cases in 2022, and one child died, according to data of the State Public Health Department of the military council.
