About 50 women were detained nationwide for their ‘Flower Strike’ to mark the 78th birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who is under arrest in Nay Pyi Taw’s prison.
Thirteen women from two branches of Aung Thamardi gold and jewelry shop in Pabedan township, Yangon, were taken to the township’s administration office, according to pro-junta Telegram channels.
Moreover, 18 women who distributed roses in Htautkyant Yadanar market and who were the flowers were taken to the local municipal office for questioning.
Three women were also arrested near Sinmalite market for wearing flower to mark Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday.
Meanwhile, Kamayut Information Telegram posted that at least 12 women were arrested in Kamayut township, Yangon, and some were released on bail, said sources close to it.
Moreover, former political prisoner Thura Maung Maung was arrested as he returned from prison visit of Yamethin township, Mandalay region, and Daw Sandar Myint who visited the prison to meet her husband who is a political prisoner. Both of them were arrested for wearing flowers on 19 June, and charged with Section 505 (a) at Yamethin police station.
The ‘Flower Strike’ was held on 19 June across the country to mark 78th birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
In Thuwunna Township, Yangon, two young persons were arrested on the road as they wore flower for ‘Flower Strike’, said the witnesses to Than Lwin Times.
“Junta forces took the two young men onto the car. They did not shout any slogan,” said a local in Thuwunna Township.
Pro-military Telegram pages said that at least five persons who organized and took part in ‘Flower Strike’ were arrested on 19 June evening.
Most of the arrestees included all genders—male, female and LGBT.
After February 2021 coup, the ‘Flower Strike’ was first launched on 2 April in the same year to pay tribute to the victims killed by the violent attack of military.
The events of “Flower Strike’ have been held on 19 June 2021, 2022 and 2023 to mark the birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The military also conducted oppressions on the event every year.
