Yebyu, July (16)

At least ten locals were arrested as human shields by junta forces who advanced towards Nabule village in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, locals told Than Lwin Times.

The 120-strong military column passed by Kadakai village in the early morning of July 15 and arrested the locals living in the farmyards as human shields.

According to local sources, the detainees included both men and women who worked as farm workers.

After arresting the local residents as human shields, the junta column headed to Ekani and Khamauk Chaung villages.

Most of the local residents of Ekani, Khamauk Chaung, and Kadakai villages fled their homes following the junta’s invasion in Nabule village.

Despite no fighting until the evening of July 15, the tension between the two rivals remains high, said the resistance forces.
