Real vs. Fake News
Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.
This program verifies fake news and misinformation about revolutionary events spread on social media after the military takeover.
Today, we will be checking the content of the photo saying, “The military council continues to wipe out the camps and bases of Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), Karenni Army (KA) and People’s Defense Forces (PDF) on the Myanmar-Thai border”.
This content was disseminated via the fake Telegram account of Truth Media on July 12.
The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and found it to be misinformation, hiding the truth of the incident.
In fact, on the morning of July 12, 2023, Karenni displaced camps on the Thai-Myanmar border were bombed, and three displaced people were killed in the indiscriminate firing of regime troops.
Three civilians were reportedly killed and at least five others were injured when the junta troops bombed the Dawnoekuu displaced camp in Karenni State on the Thai-Myanmar border at night.
The bombardment destroyed a school for displaced children, a church, and shelters, according to the KNPP, citing reliable independent media outlets.
On the morning of July 12, about 5,000 IDPs in Shar Taw and Mae Haung Saung on the Thai-Myanmar border were forced to flee air strikes by junta forces, reported VOA.

According to the reliable sources mentioned above, “The military council continues to wipe out the camps and bases of the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), Karenni Army (KA), and People’s Defense Forces (PDF) on the Myanmar-Thai border”, is merely false information spread by junta supporters.
