Real vs. Fake News
Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.
This program verifies fake news and misinformation about revolutionary events spread on social
media after the military takeover.
Today, we will be checking the fake news about the leaflets containing images entitled “Message from the Thai Foreign Minister and Nobel Peace Prize laureate”.
The military lobbyists shared on social media about leaflets saying that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said that she did not accept the National Unity Government (NUG) and People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) during a meeting with the Thai Foreign Minister.
This content was disseminated via the fake Telegram accounts of Hmine Wai and Han Nyein Oo on July 18.
The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and found it to be misinformation, hiding the truth of
the incident.
In fact, Thailand’s foreign minister said he met Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on July 9 and she was in good health. Statements by the Thai Foreign Minister and spokesperson for the ministry mentioned the meeting with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, but there was no official statement from Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained in Nay Pyi Taw prison.
Therefore, Than Lwin Times has verified that the content distributed by the military lobbyists is only misleading information.
