“Military council troops have no more capacity for their ‘area clearance operation’ or organizing campaigns. Their troops are being used for defense of the towns. They are failing in urban administration and defence”. In more than two years after the coup, resistance forces are trying to control southern area of Mon state, and the military council is enforcing their troops not to lose territory.
This interview with Nai Nagar, the spokesperson of Mon State Revolutionary Force is the miliary tension in the area, military’s enforcement to its troops and possible armed conflicts in upcoming open season.
TLT: Could you explain armed conflicts between the military council and local resistance forces in Ye township under the martial law?
Nai Nagar: Armed clashes between our forces and the military council will continue in Ye township. Military council troops have no more capacity for their ‘area clearance operation’ or organizing campaigns. Their troops are being used for defense of the towns. They are failing in urban administration and defence.
TLT: It was learnt that the military council is using the ports in coastal villages to enforce its troops and provide supplies. How are they operating on the ground?
Nai Nagar: As our resistance forces are tightening security along Ye-Dawei road for some times, they are very difficult in enforcement and supplies on this way. Last week, our forces and Dawna column carried out attacks on the troops which were mobilized to enforce the Infantry Battalion 61 based in Ye township. They used waterway. Ye-Dawei motorway is no more safe for the military.
TLT: Will the military operations intensify in southern Mon state during open season?
Nai Nagar: Military operations will increase in coming months. As we have no problem in logistics for carrying weapons, we could carry out more attacks. More operations will be needed to weaken the military troops. White Tiger column and Taungnyo column between Ye and Thanbyuzayet townships, and Dawna column in southern Ye township are operating the missions together, more offensives are expected to take place.
TLT: What is your advice for security of people in the area?
Nai Nagar: I advised all the people in this area to avoid unnecessary travels, and to stay away operation areas of military troops. We sincerely request to people for their difficulties in travelling at the moment. We need to continue fighting for the establishment of a peaceful Union. So, be patient with the ongoing troubles caused by armed conflicts. Future of our next generations will be peaceful only after we could remove dictatorship. We request all to tolerate the existing challenges.
