Hundreds of locals flee to Thailand amid clashes in Kawthaung

Hundreds of locals have fled to Thailand to escape fighting between the two sides in Mali Wan village in Tanintharyi Region’s Kawthaung Township, locals told Than Lwin Times.

On 20 September, regime forces stormed Mali Wan, sparking a confrontation with allied local defense forces.

The fighting forced nearly 50 local residents of Mali Wan village to immediately flee to Thailand by boats.

More than 200 local villagers have fled to Thailand as the junta army strengthened its forces and advanced towards Khamaukgyi village.

Thai authorities have reportedly provided temporary assistance to local residents who fled to the Thailand.

According to the revolutionary forces, at least three soldiers were killed in the Kawthaung battle, and no local defense forces were injured.

The local residents from the villages of Mali Wan and Khamaukgyi in Kawthaung Township on the Thai-Myanmar border often flee to Thailand due to the fighting between the junta army and the local defense forces.
