Tanintharyi, 26 September

A civilian was killed in the explosion of an artillery shell fired by regime forces in east Maw Ton village in Tanintharyi, said locals.

On September 24 morning, the Tanintharyi-based No. 306 junta artillery deliberately fired 10 mortar shells into east Maw Ton when fighting was abated.

The artillery shells destroyed two houses and killed Ko Ti Nge, 30, on the spot.

Local residents from east Maw Ton, Hotne New, Banlamuk, and Zalone have fled the shelling.

On September 19, a mortar shell fired by the 556th Light Infantry Battalion based in Auk Kin village exploded on a monastery in Bawdi Kan village, injuring two monks.

According to research organizations in the region, almost 20 civilians were killed in Tanintharyi in August as a result of fighting and junta shelling.
