Night watchman shot dead by pro-junta militia group in Myeik for no reason

Myeik, 7 October

A civilian night watchman was shot and killed by a junta-aligned militia group, Pyu Saw Htee, at No. 1 jetty in Tanintharyi Region’s Myeik Townshp around midnight on October 5, said locals.

The U Tun Tun-led militia group, who were drunk, shot and killed the 40-year-old night watchman U Wa Toke with a gun for no apparent reason when they arrived at the jetty.

Residents said U Wa Toke died at the spot with bullet wounds in the chest and abdomen.

It is said that U Wa Toke has no enemies, and he has a wife and three minor children left behind.

Locals say that the military council forces arrested U Tun Tun Soe and Pyu Saw Hti, who shot and killed U Wa Tok, at around 4:00 a.m. on October 6, but the Salwin Times has not been able to independently confirm the report.

This is the first time that an armed Pyu Saw Htee in Myeik town has shot a civilian for no reason, and the locals are worried that similar incidents will happen again.
