A 14-year-old girl was killed and eight others were injured by heavy artillery fired by regime troops in the KNU Brigade 3 area of Nyaunglaybin District, reported the KNU on October 12.
The junta army launched four rounds of mortar shells into Kyaukkyi and Mone Townships of Nyaunglaybin District on 10 October.
The KNU statement said that the junta army’s artillery shelling injured three family members, including a 2-year-old child, and killed two cows in Ywar Kanlang village, Kyaukkyi township.
In addition, a 14-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a mortar shell in Kyaw Hla Village, Mone Township, and a house was damaged, according to the statement.
Similarly, a 74-year-old monk from Thanet Kwin village was injured by shrapnel, while four civilians, including a 2-year-old child, were injured in Nandameik village.
According to the KNU, civilians have been killed or injured by junta shells targeting civilians in Nyaunglaybin District, and the local people are living in fear.
According to KNU statements, in 10 days, 2 civilians were killed, 14 sustained injuries, five houses were destroyed in KNU Brigade 3, and two women were also imprisoned by the military council.
According to KNU statements, the number of displaced people has surpassed 700,000 due to human rights violations, including artillery shelling and airstrikes by the junta army since the coup.
