Nay Pyi Taw, 17 October
The Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) was ratified by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw as a Union Accord, and that it will remain in force eternally, said Myanmar military chief at the commemoration event to mark the 2nd anniversary of the peace treaty on 15October.
He also said that NCA will be emphasized to build perpetual peace of the country, and urged the NCA signatories to adhere to the commitments in the treaty with transparency, responsibility and accountability.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing also said that Myanmar has inherited the independence from the ancestors, and this valuable legacy is to be passed to the future generations.
However, three former EAO signatories and non-signatories of NCA, as well as political analysts insisted the military has violated NCA principles with coup.
In his speech, the military chief invited NCA non-signatories to join political negotiations in considering development of the country and socio-economic lives of the people to be able to participate in building a Union based on democracy and federalism.
Three former NCA signatories recently made a statement that the military council’s attack on civilians has further violated NCA.
The statement of KNU, CNF and ABSDF said that they will not join negotiation until the military relinquish politics.
Karenni National Progressive Party, a non-signatory of NCA, made an statement on 16 October that the military has violated both 2008 Constitution and NCA through coup.
