Yebyu, 17 October

The body of a young woman detained by the regime forces was discovered with gunshot wounds near Wat Chaung Bridge village in Tanintharyi Region’s Yebyu Township, said locals.

On September 22, the junta column arrested eight local people, including Ma Sandar Khaing, aged 20, from Kha Mauk Chaung village in Yebyu Township.

Ma Sandar Khaing’s body was found dead near the bridge of Wat Chaung Village at around 5:00 p.m. on 14 October.

The passers-by discovered Ma Sandar Khaing’s body in a pool of blood, with gunshot wounds in her face.

According to local people, six of the eight residents detained by the military council were released, while Ma Sandar Khaing and Ko Thar Gan remained in custody.

However, no one knows if Ma Sandar Khaing was killed by the junta or by other groups.

Some local residents say Ma Sandar Khaing was arrested by the junta army and released in the first week of October, but she was shot dead after being arrested again by the gunmen in plainclothes.

In Tanintharyi Region, 29 civilians were killed in September, with no one claiming responsibility for most of the incidents, according to FE5 Tanintharyi, a research group.
