Demoso, 24 October

An infant was killed by an explosion after the mortar shell launched by the junta army landed in the displaced camp in Demoso Township, Kayah State, according to aid workers.

The incident occurred near Sithudaw refugee camp as a result of the continuous shelling of Loikaw artillery and Demoso-based junta battalions.

A seven-day-old newborn baby was shocked and died due to the explosion, a source said.

The dead infant was buried, and the parents were reportedly moved to safe places.

According to data gathered by Than Lwin Times, at least ten deaths in Kayah State this year have been linked to preterm birth and artillery fire.

Children in Kayah State are dying unfairly as a result of malnutrition and a lack of health care, as well as being shot with heavy weapons during the coup, according to the aid workers.

According to the Kayan Women’s Association, the number of pregnant women and infants dying in displaced camps and rural areas has increased since the coup.
