The anti-aircraft weapons seized by the Three Brotherhood Alliance in the northern Shan State will be used for air defense, Lee Kyar Win, spokesperson for MNDAA-Kokang, which is participating in Operation 1027, told Than Lwin Times.
The Brotherhood Alliance announced on November 5 that they had seized large anti-aircraft weapons from the military council during Operation 1027, which had been waging on for over a week.
The alliance has reportedly occupied 120 military bases and outposts, police outposts, and militia camps during its ten days of operation. In addition, large tanks used in ground operations, howitzers, anti-aircraft weapons, and ammunition were also seized.
But the number and type of anti-aircraft weapons seized by the Brotherhood Alliance were not disclosed.
Lee Kyar Win told Than Lwin Times that the anti-aircraft weapons were 14.5 mm anti-aircraft heavy machineguns.
Since the start of Operation 1027 until today, the military council, which has been losing bases one by one, has had to rely on artillery shelling and air support in the ground battle.
The military council used heavy weapons and air strikes to attack villages where there was no fighting, including the northern Shan region, and civilians, including children, were injured or killed.
The National Unity Government (NUG) announced that 18 people, including women and children, were killed and 44 others were injured due to the junta’s heavy weapons and airstrikes in Operation 1027.
The seized 14.5 mm anti-aircraft heavy machineguns could not be used to shoot jet fighters but could definitely be used against helicopters, according to CDM Sergeant Zeya from the Air Force.
On November 6, fierce fighting took place on the Kwan Lon of Northern Shan State, and the MNDAA captured three regime camps in Tong Shan and Shin Wan regions in Kokang District.
Meanwhile, the joint forces of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Mandalay PDF attacked two junta camps near Goat Hteik in Nung Cho Township and Shwe Nyaung Pin Village in the morning of November 6, TNLA reported.
