Military regime’s aerial bombing killed a monk in Mikathit village in Mon State’s Kyaikmaraw Township on the morning of December 1, locals said.
The military aircraft dropped two 500-pound bombs on Mikathit village around 2 a.m. when there was no fighting, resulting in explosions in the compound of monastery.
U Thaw Maha, a 42-year-old monk of Banna Dana Monastery, died on the spot, and religious facilities were partially destroyed, according to the report.
The bombardment by the military council has raised concerns among local residents, and some have left their homes and moved to safe places, said locals.
On November 30, three locals from Kawpanar, Kawdun, and Wenge villages were injured in junta attack in the fighting that broke out at the Sabaigu Bridge in Kyaikmaraw.
The junta shelling forces all the villagers from at least three villages, including Kawpanar village, to flee their homes, said locals.
More than 20,00 people were forcibly displaced by the clashes that happened Chaunghnakhwa checkpoint and police station in Kyaikmaraw on November 10.
People fleeing the conflict require food, medicine, and humanitarian assistance over time.
