A 60-year-old motorbike taxi driver was robbed and killed on December 27 morning in Thanbyuzayat, Mon State, said locals.

He was robbed and killed near the toll gate in Phaung Sein Ward, Thanbyuzayat Township.

He received at least 20 stab wounds. Locals found his body and asked for help from social rescue teams.

A social rescue team based in Thanbyuzayat took the deceased to the mortuary at Kamarwat Hospital, Mudon Township.

The victim was wearing shirt No. 102 from Min Thiha motorcycle gate in Thanbyuzayat, and his motorcycle was taken away by robbers.

The incident has raised concerns among motorcycle taxi drivers in Thanbyuzayat, and some of them will no longer provide long-distance service.

In the wake of the coup, the military council was unable to enforce the rule of law; therefore, motorcycle taxi drivers were frequently robbed, killed, and threatened with knives.
