Kawlin, 5 December
The revolutionary forces took control of 18 towns in four states and one region while making an attempt to overthrow the military regime with nationwide offensives in nearly three years of coup.
According to data compiled by Than Lwin Times, these towns include Kawlin, Khanpat, Shwe Pyi Aye in Sagaing; Rikkhawda, Lailinpi, Rezua in Chin State; Chin Shwe Haw, Hpawnseng, Kyugote, Hsenni, Konkyan, Mong Koe, and Kwanlon in Shan State; Maesea in Kayah Stae; and Ingyanyang in Kachin State.
Among them, Hnaring, Sukhwar, and Waibula towns in Chin State are among the towns that the military council surrendered before the revolutionary forces attacked.
U Kyaw Zaw, the spokesperson of the National Unity Government’s (NUG) presidential office, said that the administration and defense teams are providing guidance on digging trenches to prevent bombs and early warning systems for air defense in occupied towns.
The NUG, along with allies, including the regional People’s Defense Forces under the Ministry of Defense, occupied Kawlin, Khampat, and Shwe Pyi Aye in Sagaing Province in November.
U Kyaw Zaw explained that the NUG formed people’s administrative bodies in those towns to help the people fleeing the war return home and to operate the government apparatus, law enforcement, and security and defense officials.
The NUG announced on December 3 that Kawlin Township, Kolin District, Sagaing Region, had been liberated from military rule and that public administration had begun.
Salai Htet Ni, a spokesperson for the Chin National Front (CNF), told Than Lwin Times that they are primarily focused on regional security in terms of air defense and are attempting to carry out military action sthrough international pressure.
Among the towns captured by the CNF and local PDFs in November are Rihkhawdar, Lailinpi, and Rezua, while Makwi Eainu has been occupied since the end of 2021.
Currently, the Chin National Front (CNF) and local PDFs said that they are working together with the public to repatriate the people fleeing the conflict, resettle them, clear the areas in Rihkhawdar and Lailinpi towns, and continue to implement people’s administration.
Lee Kyar Win, the spokersperson of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), which is among the armed groups that launched Operation 1027 in the northern Shan region, also told Than Lwin Times that they will be on the frontlines for public safety. It provides people with the information they require about the bombing. We will continue to carry out the operation to liberate all the towns in Kokang District.
The MNDAA has captured four border trade posts, including Chin Shwe Haw, Mong Koe, Hpawnghseng, Kwanglon, Pengseng, Konkyan, and more than 200 large and small army bases in the Kokang region of Northern Shan State, in more than a month of Operations 1027.
Many local residents have returned to Panghseng, Mong Koe, Hpawnghseng, and Konkyan, while in Chin Shwe Hao and Kumlong, there are still few people returning home, Lee Kyar Win added. Apart from Hpawnghseng, the administration is operating in the northern regions of Panghseng, Mong Koe, and Konkyan. First, hospitals and schools are opened as soon as possible, and public welfare projects are started.
The Karenni town of Maese was captured by the Karenni Army (KA), Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF), Karenni National People’s Liberation Front and allied PDFs on June 24.
The regime troops withdrew from the police station and administrative offices, including three military camps in Injangyang, Kachin State, in the third week of November, and the military council has not yet been able to launch a ground offensive to retake those areas and settle the camp.
But the military council army could at any time retake those places it had lost through airstrikes, which it relied on throughout the coup.
CDM Sergeant Zeya of the Air Force pointed out that the air force is the current military council’s main support, so if the revolutionary forces can only respond to the air force, the revolution will end quickly.
The military council army was defeated in ground operations during the coup from late October to the first week of December this year, and it resorted to more airstrikes as it could not recover.
According to the Three Brotherhood Alliance, more than 140 civilians were killed and around 200 others were injured during Operation 1027 in Northern Shan State due to artillery shelling and airstrikes by the junta in Kokang Special Region-1, Ta’ang region, and Rakhine State.
