The military council has prohibited motorcycling in the Kanpauk area of Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, making it difficult for people to move around, the residents told Than Lwin Times.
On January 25, the military council banned motorcycling after the members of People’s Defense Force (PDF) arrived on a motorcycle and shot three people, including U Khin Soe, the junta-appointed administrator of the village.
The military council issued a warning that the motorcyclists would be arrested following the event, rendering it difficult for the locals to move around.
Due to the military council’s ban on motorcycling, the locals are facing difficulties going to work, accessing to health care, conducting business, and sending their children to school, said a resident.
At present, the residents of the Kanpauk area travel by foot, bicycle, auto-rickshaws, tuk-tuks, trishaws, etc.
One village administrator was killed in the attack on three people, including U Khin Soe, the junta-appointed administrator of the Kanpauk village tract. The other administrator and his assistant were critically injured, and they are currently receiving treatment at the Kanpauk district hospital.
The military council arrested 12 local people for their alleged involvement in the shooting and is interrogating them at the Mawrawaddy naval base.
