A police station was burnt down in an intense fighting in Payarthonezu sub-township of Kyain Seikgyi Township, Kayin State, on 25 February morning.

The junta declared martial law in this area under the control of Karen National Union Brigade 6.

The fighting started around 6 am, and the random heavy weapon firing of junta troops hit some houses in Payarthonezu.

Thai authorities have tightened security at the border area due to the escalation of fighting, said the local sources.

Urban guerilla forces are attacking and setting fire to public offices of junta regime in Payarthonezu since late January, while bomb explosions frequently occurred there.

Moreover, the junta carried out air strikes on mineral exploration sites near Payarthonezu, and frequently conducted heavy weapon shelling in this area.
