Yangon, May (16)

According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, powerful cyclone Mocha passed through Myanmar and has been designated as a green level.

Cyclone Mocha, which made landfall near Katha Township in upper Sagaing Region, moved east and northeast near Bamaw in Kachin State and weakened into a depression at the China-Myanmar border.

The Meteorological Department announced yesterday that the cyclone would gradually weaken as a low pressure area over the next three hours.

Cyclone Mocha has passed through Myanmar, but Sagaing and Mandalay Regions and, Kachin and Shan States are still covered in clouds, with maximum winds of 30 miles per hour.

The Department of Meteorology has also issued a warning to those living near the highlands to be aware of the risk of landslides, as strong winds, heavy rains, and flash floods may occur due to the depression.

Up to 90 percent of the Rakhine state’s capital city, Sittwe, has been destroyed by cyclone Mocha, and there were some casualties, but the exact number is not yet known.
