Mawlamyine, June (18)

Two women were killed and four others were injured in a heavy artillery blast in Theinzayet and Ye towns in Mon State’s Kyaikto Township in a single day, locals told Than Lwin Times.

A regime battalion based in Khoza in Ye Township fired a heavy weapon into Wintamot village around 3:00 p.m. on June 16.

The artillery shell fired by the military council hit 35-year-old Mi Htway Htwe Kyi, who was preparing to cook at home, killing her on the spot.

Following that, the soldiers from Infantry Battalion 31 arrived in the village and returned after claiming that they were not responsible for the attack, locals said.

On June 16, at 9:00 p.m., at least five large weapons were fired at Ward No. 1 of Theinzayet town by the junta artillery based in Theinzayet.

The explosion killed a 38-year-old woman, Daw Aye Aye Nwe, and injured four people, including her daughter, aged 5.

The injured and dead residents were taken to the hospital by social rescue teams.

The military lobbyists posted on their Telegram accounts that the attack was carried out by the joint force of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).

More than 60 civilians have been killed in Mon State in more than two years of the military coup, according to the Assistance Association for the Political Prisoners (AAPP).
