The United Nations’ Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) announced on June 29 that the coup army has committed more war crimes, including murder and rape, against the people.
The military council is perpetrating serious war crimes across the country, including murder, rape, and torture, as well as unlawful imprisonment, said the statement.
The team has solid evidence of war crimes against civilians, and more details about the investigation will be published in the IIMM’s annual report.
According to the statement, the substantial information from more than 700 sources and the testimony of more than 200 witnesses, including over 135 packages with supporting information and analysis, will be submitted to the Human Rights Council.
Given the enormous increase in violence in Myanmar, the Mechanism is focusing its investigations on the gravest incidents and where the impact on victims is most severe, said the statement.
In addition, IIMM is also investigating the mass killing of Rohingya by the Burmese army.
The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) was established by the Human Rights Council in 2018 to collect evidence on the military’s human rights abuses against the Rohingya.
