Hpa-an, August (1)
A car bomb exploded near the Than Lwin Bridge (Hpa-an) checkpoint in Karen State’s Hpa-an Township, killing one civilian and injuring at least ten others, local residents told the Than Lwin Times.
The explosion occurred at the Than Lwin Bridge (Hpa-an) checkpoint around 6:30 a.m., yesterday as regime forces, policemen, and traffic police officers were asking vehicles to stop and be inspected.
The car bombing killed one civilian and injured at least ten others, including seven soldiers and policemen.
The injured were taken to the 100-bedded military hospital in Hpa-an by a social rescue organization.
At least five cars and motorcycles were damaged by the explosion, and certain parts of the road and the checkpoint were also destroyed.
According to the travelers, passenger vehicles have been allowed to pass through again since around 4 p.m. yesterday, but truckers have remained prohibited.
The Than Lwin Bridge (Hpa-an) checkpoint is also notorious for checking travelers’ IDs and mobile phones, extorting huge amounts of money from tourists, and frequently arresting civilians at the gate.
