Nearly 20 local people who were arrested by the junta army for various reasons in Mon State’s Kyaikto and Paung Townships this September have been detained incommunicado, according to sources close to the family members.
The military council arrested more than 30 local people in Kyaikto and Paung Township earlier this month after at least three people, including soldiers, police, and informants, were shot to death.
The junta army handed over five of the 23 residents from Ottan Tar and Yin Nyein village to the police, but the whereabouts of the remaining 18 residents are unknown to the family members.
A person close to the matter told Than Lwin Times that the police from Paung Township said they had no detainees and would inform the family members if they arrive.
Moreover, the military council released eight of the 10 residents of Kyaikto, but the married couple, who live on Kyaikto station road, have not been released until now and have been held incommunicado.
Family members of the arrestees have not heard from them in about a month, and they feel worried for them.
According to information obtained by Than Lwin Times, 42 people were detained between 7 to 29 September : 23 from Paung Township, 10 from Kyaikto Township, five from Thaton Township, three from Thanbyuzayet Township, and one from Mawlamyine Township.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) reported on September 28,
that 824 citizens had been arrested in Mon State over the two and a half years of the military coup.
