Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.
This program checks for fake news and misinformation about revolutionary incidents on social media after the military takeover.
Today, we will verify the news circulated on social media saying, “The revolutionary forces are forcibly arresting and killing soldiers who surrendered, hostages, and non-CDM staff from Loikaw University.”
This fake news has been spread by the pro-junta Telegram, Facebook, and TikTok accounts of Kyaw Swar and Han Nyein Oo since November 15.
The Than Lwin Times investigated the post and photos, and discovered them to be false.
The Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) released a report on November 14 that Karenni revolutionary forces have rescued 134 non-CDM staff from Loikaw University and Loikaw Industrial School and 64 of their family members who were trapped in Loikaw.
The IEC Secretary 2, U Banyar, told the Kantarawaddy Times that it was difficult for the Karenni revolutionary forces and civil society organizations to rescue them who were stuck in the middle of the battle.
In addition, it has been verified that 32 soldiers lay down their weapons in the campus of Loikaw University and that the resistance fighters took good care of them and provided medical treatment to the injured, reported the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) with some images.
