Today, we will verify the news circulated on social media saying, “Thai authorities arrested 17 fugitive PDFs on the border between Phayar Thone Zuu and Kanchanaburi.”
This fake news has been spread by the pro-junta Telegram, Facebook, and TikTok accounts of Truth News, MOI, MRTV, and Han Nyein Oo since October 13.
In fact, Thai police arrested Myanmar migrant workers who entered Thailand from the border of Kanchanaburi Province on the Thailand-Myanmar border.
The Than Lwin Times investigated the post and photos, and discovered them to be false.
The 20 Myanmar nationals were arrested for trying to sneak into Malaysia via Bangkok airport with passports stamped with fake Thai stamps, the independent media outlets reported.
According to VOA news agency, quoting U Moe Kyo, who assists labor affairs, 20 undocumented Myanmar workers—16 men and 4 women—were arrested by the police on October 29 on Chotiwittay Akul No. 1 Road in Songkhla province on the border between Thailand and Malaysia.
Military supporters have used reports and images of the arrests of Myanmar migrant workers published in Thai and Myanmar media to spread false information.
